The mindful leader is able to find a place of stillness within the present moment. This is powerful not only because it heightens our awareness of our own, and others’, emotional experience but also because it connects us with the essence of ourselves. Resilience, productivity and improved focus are useful bi-products of mindful leadership, without a doubt. However the most transformational aspect is this clarity of SELF from which flows a renewed sense of core values and heartfelt purpose. And these are the things which bring real inspiration to leadership and which will flow effortlessly through a team or organisation.
The mindful leader also cultivates the ability to simply notice: their own needs and emotions and those of others. When this awareness is fully harnessed robust emotional management follows, enabling responsive instead of reactive behaviour. Thus a constructive, compassionate culture can emerge, building trust and respect in equal measure.
Mindful Leadership is at the heart of what we do. It infuses all programmes whether this is the primary intention or not. Not least because when you are mindful, you are in the best frame of mind to learn.

Far from simply being an antedote for surviving stress and improving performance, when absorbed into the leadership ethos of an organisation, becoming mindful promotes compassion, connection and humanity. It promotes relationship above task and becomes a catalyst for change in itself.

I believe in the concept of connectedness as fundamental to leadership and the work with the horses demonstrated and taught this better than anything I have come across.
